Umrah flights from Morocco: airlines, routes and departure cities

This page is a reference for anyone planning an Umrah trip from Morocco: pilgrims in Morocco, Moroccans living abroad who fly home first, and the son or daughter booking for their parents. Each claim comes with its source. When we do not know something, we say so.

It covers the flight side only: airlines, routes, airports and stopovers. Prices, entry paperwork and religious questions are outside its scope. For a question about the rites, ask a trusted imam or scholar.

Which airlines fly from Morocco to Saudi Arabia?

Three airlines appear in our sources: Royal Air Maroc, flynas and Saudia. They do not fly the same routes, and only some of their schedules are published.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the Moroccan national carrier, serves Saudi Arabia from its Casablanca hub, with Jeddah and Madinah both on sale, according to the Royal Air Maroc website1. Frequencies and the Ramadan 2027 schedule are not published, according to the Royal Air Maroc website1.

flynas, a Saudi airline, flies to two Moroccan cities. Its Jeddah-Casablanca route opened in 2023 at 3 flights a week2. It launched the Jeddah-Rabat route on 4 July 2026 with 1 flight a week2. Over 3 years on that Casablanca route, the airline reports more than 300,000 passengers between the two countries, according to flynas6.

Saudia, the Saudi national carrier, has served Marrakech as well as Casablanca. In June 2022, Saudia resumed seasonal direct Jeddah-Marrakech flights, with 3 weekly flights7. We did not check whether this route operates in 20267.

How the market is shared matters in busy seasons. According to Royal Air Maroc, quoted by SNRTnews, the airline provided about one third of the air capacity for the Ramadan 2022 Umrah, with the other two thirds provided by other international airlines, including Saudi carriers9. In practice, a fully booked RAM flight does not mean there are no seats at all: look at the Saudi carriers too.

Which Moroccan airports have flights to Saudi Arabia?

For regular Umrah travel, our sources confirm two departure airports: Casablanca Mohammed V and Rabat-Salé. Other airports appear in seasonal programmes for Ramadan and Hajj. The practical side of leaving from each of the two is covered by omracasablanca.ma's Mohammed V departure guide and omrarabat.ma's guide to leaving from Rabat-Salé.

Airport What our sources show
Casablanca Mohammed V Royal Air Maroc to Jeddah and Madinah, according to the Royal Air Maroc website1; flynas to Jeddah since 20232
Rabat-Salé flynas to Jeddah since 4 July 20262
Marrakech Saudia seasonal flights to Jeddah resumed in June 2022; not checked for 20267
Tangier, Oujda, Fez, Agadir Departure cities of Royal Air Maroc's Ramadan 2023 programme, with Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech4
Ouarzazate, Dakhla Among the 9 airports with Hajj 2026 flights5

ONDA is Morocco's National Airports Office, the public body that runs the country's airports. For Hajj 2026, ONDA counted 91 outbound flights from 9 Moroccan airports to Madinah and Jeddah, operated by Royal Air Maroc and Saudi airlines5.

A seasonal programme is not a year-round timetable. If you live near Fez, Agadir or Oujda, ask the airline whether a flight from your city exists on your dates, or whether you will need to start from Casablanca.

Should you fly into Jeddah or Madinah?

Both work, and the choice sets the order of your trip. According to the Royal Air Maroc website, the airline sells flights from Casablanca to both cities1.

Landing in Jeddah puts you closest to Makkah. The Haramain High Speed Railway has 5 stations, including King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah10. You can leave the terminal and continue by train, or by the road transfer your organiser arranges.

Landing in Madinah means you start the trip there and travel to Makkah later. Neither order is better in itself: ask your organiser why they chose one or the other, and what it changes for an older parent's first days.

Your return city matters too. If you plan to bring Zamzam water home, read our page on Zamzam water and flights before you book the return leg. Transfers between the three cities are explained in our guide to getting from Jeddah to Makkah and Madinah.

Direct flight or a stopover?

A direct flight, when one exists on your dates, is the simpler trip. Every stopover adds a landing, a walk through a terminal, a security check and a connection you could miss. For older travellers, that time on the ground is often more tiring than the flight itself; see our step-by-step plan for Umrah with elderly parents.

A stopover also ties your trip to a second airport. After strikes on Iran in late February 2026, Royal Air Maroc suspended its Casablanca-Doha and Casablanca-Dubai flights, a suspension extended until 15 April 202612. No impact on routes to Saudi Arabia was reported12. The lesson is practical: a route through a hub depends on events at that hub.

If a flight is delayed or cancelled, the insurance attached to your trip may help. According to Gulf News, citing the ministry, the insurance included in the Umrah visa fees covers medical emergencies, accidents, death and flight delays or cancellations, among others13. Keep the policy details and the insurer's phone number with your passport.

Before you choose a stopover itinerary, ask yourself three questions:

  • Is the connection time long enough for an older parent to walk between gates?
  • Is the whole journey on one ticket, and what happens if the first flight is late?
  • Does your checked bag go straight through to Jeddah or Madinah?

How do you check a flight before you book?

Five checks catch most problems before money changes hands, whether you book yourself or through an organiser:

Route

  1. The route on the airline's own website: confirm that the airline flies your city pair on your dates, not only in a past season.
  2. The departure airport: Casablanca Mohammed V or Rabat-Salé, and how you or your parents will get there.
  3. The arrival city: Jeddah or Madinah, in line with the order of your hotel nights.
  4. The baggage allowance: ask for it in writing for your exact fare, for the outbound and the return flight.
  5. The return day: leave enough time at the airport to check in without rushing, especially if you are bringing Zamzam water home.

Write the answers down and keep them with your booking. If something changes later, you will know what was agreed.

How busy are flights in Ramadan?

Very busy, based on recent seasons. For Ramadan 2023, Royal Air Maroc announced more than 61,000 seats on about 100 flights to Jeddah and Madinah, including 28,000 for Ramadan Umrah4. In early March 2025, according to LesEco, a direct Casablanca-Jeddah flight for the Ramadan Umrah was still hard to find, with almost all airlines full on direct Morocco-Saudi flights in February 202514.

That is a description of past seasons, not a forecast. If you can travel outside Ramadan, compare the options in our guide to the best time for Umrah from Morocco.

How do Hajj flights work?

Hajj flights run as a separate seasonal programme, on top of the regular schedule. For Hajj 2023, flights outside Casablanca were split as follows: Rabat-Salé 19, Agadir 7, Fez 7, Marrakech 6 and Oujda 6, with Tangier also served15. These flights came on top of regular flights between Morocco and Saudi Arabia15.

Some Hajj pilgrims also go through the Makkah Route, the Saudi scheme that moves entry formalities to the departure airport; Morocco has taken part since 2022 (1443 AH), and it serves Hajj pilgrims, not Umrah travellers17.

This notebook covers the travel side of Hajj only. The official Hajj process in Morocco is announced by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.

To confirm before you leave

  • Current weekly frequencies on Royal Air Maroc's Saudi routes: not published, according to the Royal Air Maroc website1.
  • The flynas Rabat increase: the move to 2 flights a week from 19 August 2026 comes to us according to Wego3; we have not confirmed it with the airline.
  • Saudia to Marrakech: we did not check whether this route operates in 20267.
  • Baggage allowance: the Rabat agreement of 4 October 2023 provided for an allowance raised from 46 to 69 kg per pilgrim (measures announced in October 2023, according to Le360 and Hespress), and implementation was not verified18.
  • Flight times and the time difference between Morocco and Saudi Arabia: no approved source in our register.
  • Regional departures outside Ramadan and Hajj: no source confirms year-round flights from Fez, Agadir, Oujda, Tangier or Marrakech.

Next stop in the notebook: the Umrah packing list, then getting from Jeddah to Makkah and Madinah.

Travellers’ questions

Which Moroccan airports have direct flights to Jeddah?

Two airports have a regular direct route in our sources. Casablanca Mohammed V has Royal Air Maroc, according to the Royal Air Maroc website1, and flynas since 20232. Rabat-Salé has flynas since 4 July 20262. Marrakech had seasonal Saudia flights in 2022, a route we did not check for 20267. Other airports appear only in Ramadan or Hajj programmes.

Can I fly to Saudi Arabia from Rabat?

Yes, on flynas. The airline launched the Jeddah-Rabat route on 4 July 2026 with 1 flight a week, the first direct flight by a Saudi airline between the two cities2. The route was due to increase to 2 flights a week from 19 August 2026, according to Wego3.

Does the Makkah Route apply to Umrah travellers?

No. For Hajj 2026, the Makkah Route programme was extended for the first time to Rabat-Salé airport, and it applies to Hajj, not Umrah5.
